Żanżan Kelma – Kompetizzjoni tal-Ispellija ġewwa l-Primarja

Żanżan Kelma – Kompetizzjoni tal-Ispellija ġewwa l-Primarja

Din is-sena, il-Prep 5 introduċew ktieb tal-qari ġdid li jismu “L-Ispettaklu Stupend: Żanżan Kelma”. Il-ktieb isegwi l-istorja ta’ tifla “India” li tieħu sehem f’kompetizzjoni tal-ispellija. Kull kapitlu jibda b’kelma interessanti bil-Malti li tagħti ħjiel dwar dak li ser jiġri fil-kapitlu. Dawn il-kliem ġew magħqudin f’pakketti u ġew mgħotija lill-istudenti. Ms Roberta (assistent kap) ġietha l-idea biex norganizzaw kompetizzjoni. Flimkien mal-għalliema, ġew diskussi r-regoli u l-pakketti tal-kliem tqassmu lit-tfal.

Il-kompetizzjoni kienet maqsuma f’erba’ taqsimiet sakemm kellna tifel rebbieħ minn kull klassi. Fl-aħħar rebaħ tifel wieħed mill-klassijiet kollha tal-Prep 5.

Din l-inizjattiva għenet lis-subien jieħdu interess u jimirħu iktar fil-vokabularju u spellija tal-Malti.

It-tifel rebbieħ ta’ din il-kompetizzjoni huwa Enrico Bonavia (Prep 5 DD)!

Sfida Assoluta

Eżerċizzju esklussiv li ngħata lis-subien kollha kienet sfida fejn min jirnexxilu joħloq storja u juża tal-anqas 20 mis-26 kelma li jibdew kull kapitlu, ikun inkurunat Maestru tal-Kitba!

It-tifel li għoġbu jidħol għal din l-isfida u ħareġ rebbieħ bħala l-Maestru tal-Kitba huwa Jake Said (Prep 5 DD)!

Din ta’ taħt hija l-istorja li kiteb Jake:

It-Tifel Dragun

Is-sena l-oħra, Elisa, John u jien waqafna b’kumbinazzjoni fuq gżira misterjuża, b’dgħajsa żgħira.

Il-gżira kienet kollha ramel, ħaxix u siġar. Meta ħarisna mill-bogħod rajna xena panoramika mill-isbaħ. Wara li mxejna ftit, rajna immaġini sorprendenti; tifel jitrasforma ruħu f’dragun. Konna ħosbiena x’ser naqbdu nagħmlu. Konna lkoll imbeżża’ ħafna, ħassejna ruħna mħawda x’ser naqbdu nagħmlu u mwerwra. Elisa, li kienet l-izgħar fostna, bdiet titriegħed ħafna u ħassitha skunċertata. Din il-kreatura kienet maestuża, kellha żewġt iġwienaħ ħomor, ras kbira sewda u denb twil kollu kuluri. B’dan l-avveniment ħassejna li d-dragun ser ikun diżastruż u ħa jkollna bżonn emerġenza biex naħarbu minn fuq din il-gżira. Id-dragun resaq lejna u staqsiena x’jisimna. John u Elisa stagħġbu ħafna meta raw li d-dragun jitkellem u li kien mans. Elisa, li kienet tifla biżbetka, ħassitha tittituba x’ser taqbad tagħmel imma kienet kuraġġuża biżżejjed li tagħmel pass ’il quddiem.

Kienet deċiżjoni għaqlija li nirrisponduh lura u Elisa irsistiet biex tkellmu, imma ħassitha skuraġġanti quddiem dan id-dragun tant enormi. John u jiena irrispondejna lura u għednielu li ġejna fuq din il-gżira misterjuża għax konna intlifna. Id-dragun qalilna li huwa jismu Peter u biex ma ngħidu xejn li konna rajnieh fuq din il-gżira. Aħna wegħednieh li mhu ser ngħidu xejn u qabel ma tlaqna irringrazzjajnieh għax tassew kien dragun gentili.

Din l-avventura tibqa’ żgur memorabbli għalina għax ma nistgħu ninsewha qatt u ma nistgħu ngħidu lil ħadd biha!

-Is-Sa Daphne u s-Sa Roberta

Prosit lil kulħadd!

Meet EASYBEADS – our Sixth Form’s award-winning JAYE company

Meet EASYBEADS – our Sixth Form’s award-winning JAYE company

Following their success at the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Malta Foundation (JAYE Malta) finals and awards night, we have touched base with the talented team behind easybeads:

How did easybeads come along? What inspired you?

Easybeads came about because of eight students who wanted to create a solution to a challenge.
When brainstorming, we knew we wanted to focus on mental health as the challenge, not only because it is relatable to us as a group but to many people worldwide.

Easybeads was inspired by not only the want to create accessories, but also by the drive to create an affordable solution to an agenda that is covered in stigma.

Our motto is ’10 beads 10 breaths’, with one bead representing one deep breath to take in order to calm down and rationalise your stressful situation. Furthermore, easybeads bracelets are customisable, adjustable, and eco-friendly. Our product also includes a meditation video with breathing techniques and affirmations to further practise mindfulness.

Who is the team behind the company?

Easybeads is made up of eight Sixth Form students:

Nina Galea as Managing director, Miguel Sammut as Financial director, Julian Paul Attard as General Secretary, Kimberly Borg as Marketing Director, Philippa German as Sales Director, Julia Curmi as IT Director, Elisa Grech as Quality Director, and Ilaria Farrugia Pace as Human Resources Director.

Although we all stuck to our roles, every member made sure to help out in other areas, when possible, to improve efficiency. We also made sure to constantly uphold a positive environment in all our meetings.

Which awards did you win at the JAYE awards? How are you feeling?

Easybeads was nominated for the ‘’Farsons Ready for Work Award’’, the ‘’EFQ Quality Excellence Award’’ and the ‘’Atlas Digital Marketing Innovation Award’’ and we won all three of these signature awards. The final award that was announced for the Company Programme was the Company of the Year Award. Easybeads managed to obtain the first-place position for the award which will lead to us having the opportunity to represent Malta in the GEN- E Competition in Estonia.

As a team we all feel very honoured to have received not only three signature awards but also the ‘’company of the year‘’ award. We are all very excited for what’s to come as our win not only means that we achieved all that we strived for but also that we will now be receiving further recognition which will allow us to reach more people on their mental health journey. We look forward to the competition in Estonia, and hope to do our absolute best.

Have you planned the next step? What’s in store for easybeads?

This is surely not the end for easybeads. We see so much potential in our mission in helping everyone in their mindfulness journey and in our mission of increasing awareness to this everyday challenge. We plan to re-open in the near future and sell through e-commerce. We wish to also make easybeads a bigger concept through collaborations and much more. We all look forward to the road ahead!

Thank you and best of luck for your future endeavours!

Update: Ongoing works at Sports Complex

Update: Ongoing works at Sports Complex

Works are currently underway at the College Sports Grounds.

All the surrounding olive trees have recently been transplanted to the Jesuit Retreat House at Mt St Joseph in Mosta, while other trees are in the process of being transplanted within the St Aloysius College grounds.

Featured above: Successfully replanted olive and palm trees

Fr Jimmy sj has shared a comprehensive information update regarding current works:

Only a few ficus trees could not be transplanted on our grounds because their roots are very invasive and can damage services and floor tiles if they are close to buildings. We therefore contacted the Environment Landscapes Consortium (ELC) to ask them to plant these trees in open public spaces, as has been the case with some other ficus trees that were transplanted from College grounds to other open spaces during the past years.

Apart from the ficus trees, we had a handful of cypress trees that had to be removed. I am informed that these trees could not be transplanted because of the way their root system grows.

In order to compensate for the trees that could not be transplanted, St Aloysius College will be teaming up with the contractor, Vassallo Group, to plant ten trees for every tree that was lost. The details of where to plant these trees have not yet been decided but our intention is to give them to Parks Malta.

It goes without saying that all works are being conducted according to the Planning authority permits.

The respect for the environment, and trees in particular, have long been high on the agenda of our College. Between 2002-2007, St Aloysius College planted around 10,000 indigenous trees at the Kennedy Grove in Salina and in other places managed by Parks Malta. Moreover between 2008 to 2013 around 2000 trees were planted at Mt St Joseph retreat house. Furthermore, between 2016 to the present day, our College has created a nursery (featured below) which is being managed by teachers and students, and which has so far grown around 2000 indigenous trees, many of which have been donated to the University of Malta, Park tal-Majjistral, and other private residences.

Our College will continue to be committed to educating our students to take care of our common home through the College’s green policy and many other curricular and cross-curricular initiatives.

Friends in the Lord Week at our Primary School

Friends in the Lord Week at our Primary School

The community celebration which took place on Friday 13th May  brought together the various visits and encounters which were held over the past couple of weeks with the theme ‘Friends in the Lord’.

Featured above: Formation of Ignatius 500 (the Ignatian Year theme) by the Primary School community.

Most Preps met a Jesuit or visited an institution, while additionally preparing to give back a donation, a card, a calendar etc.

Mr Anthony, Primary School Chaplain, tells us more about these experiences:

‘Playing, working, entertaining and reflecting with the Jesuits. This morning…
– Pre-Preps visited the elder Jesuits at Loyola House.
– Prep 5s met the Jesuits at University and had some reflective fun!
– Prep 2s worked hard in the Garden at College after a presentation by the Jesuits of the house.’
Well done to our organisers and collaborators for their contributions, making this experience special and memorable for all!
