Two musical Aloysians in Paris…

Elena Gatt and Lucas Garcia Conrad, both students attending our College, were chosen alongside two other young musicians from the Malta Youth Orchestra to form part of a 120-piece orchestra from 27 European countries, in celebration of the 2022 Presidency of the European Council.

Their past experiences with the Malta Youth Orchestra saw them showcasing their musical skills during various programs held up by the MYO itself, as well as playing alongside stabilized musicians from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

The concert will be held next Saturday, 26th February (20:00).
Watch it live here.

Read more about the concert here.

Good luck and well done, Elena and Lucas!

GLOBE SEEDS & SOIL WE EXPLORE Challenge – a special experience for our Primary School Students

GLOBE SEEDS & SOIL WE EXPLORE Challenge – a special experience for our Primary School Students

On Friday 18th, our Preps 3 & 4, as well as EkoSkola Committee, School Council and LEAF members, participated in a super interesting online session titled GLOBE Seeds and Soil We Explore Challenge, a collaboration project coordinated by ESD @ Xrobb l-Għaġin and GLOBE Malta.

The main aims of this session were experiencing the life cycle of a plant, and appreciating the functions of soil in supporting that same seedling and life in the Earth system. It induced critical thinking through hands-on investigations that link to ESD themes. These include soil erosion, climate change, the urban heat island effect (UHIE) and more. It seeks to inspire participants in taking actions to curb down these effects. These actions will be placed within the international context through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also aims at presenting protocols from the international science and education GLOBE Program to
engage participants in citizen science.

SeedSoil We Explore 2021-2022

** UPDATE **

Following this fruitful session, our students were invited to submit their reflections regarding one thing they learned today, one thing they would like to learn more about, and one thing they can do to help nature. The response was great! All student submissions will be sent to the organisers of the original seed-planting event.

Check out the great suggestions in the samples below:

One thing I learned today is that trees can control flooding, when roots and soil absorb a considerable amount of water.
– Edward-Arthur Portelli, Prep 3

I will think twice about buying toys, especially made of plastic.
– Jenna Cardona, Prep 3

I am going to make sure I tell everyone that I know how important trees and plants are in our lives.
– Ciaran Hackett, Prep 3

Well done to all our students!

What is the International Day of Human Fraternity all about?

What is the International Day of Human Fraternity all about?

International Day of Human Fraternity is globally observed on 4th February. It aims to underline the importance of raising awareness about different cultures and religions or beliefs, and the promotion of tolerance.

As we commemorate the International Day of Human Fraternity, let us commit to do more to promote cultural and religious tolerance, understanding and dialogue.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres

There is deep concern regarding acts that advocate religious hatred and, thereby, undermine the spirit of tolerance and respect for diversity, especially at a time when the world confronts the unprecedented crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which requires a global response based on unity, solidarity and renewed multilateral cooperation.

And in these times, we need — perhaps more than ever before — to recognize the valuable contribution of people of all religions, or beliefs, to humanity and the contribution that dialogue among all religious groups can make towards an improved awareness and understanding of the common values shared by all humankind.

We also need to underline the importance of raising awareness about different cultures and religions, or beliefs, and the promotion of tolerance, which involves societal acceptance and respect for religious and cultural diversity, including regarding religious expression. Education, at school, should contribute in a meaningful way to promoting tolerance and the elimination of discrimination based on religion or belief.

Furthermore, we must acknowledge that tolerance, pluralistic tradition, mutual respect and the diversity of religions and beliefs promote human fraternity. Thus, it is imperative that we encourage activities aimed at promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue to enhance peace and social stability, respect for diversity and mutual respect and to create, at the global level, and also at the regional, national and local levels, an environment conducive to peace and mutual understanding.
