Curiosity Week with our Prep 1s & Prep 5s – June 2022

Curiosity Week with our Prep 1s & Prep 5s – June 2022

Curiosity Week was celebrated as part of our school’s Global Citizenship Programme.
Discover what our Prep 1s and Prep 5s have been up to…

Last week, at our Primary School, there was a rumour of some superheroes running around. Are you curious to get to know if it’s true? Have you ever heard the saying “Curiosity killed the cat”? That means that being curious can sometimes get you in trouble. But curiosity isn’t always a bad thing. Being curious about issues around the world is a good thing because we get to learn about how to take care of planet earth. The global issue we tackled as a class was climate change. We talked about what causes climate change and how to try and make our earth a better place to live in; through planting more trees, using good energy, caring about our environment etc. All it takes is a bit of willpower and courage to do what is right for the planet we live in. Remember: WE CAN ALL BE SUPERHEROES!

Prep 5AA also explain their take on Curiosity Week:

At the end of the year, we are celebrating curiosity. Have you ever wondered if curiosity is a good or bad quality in people? Throughout this scholastic year, we learnt about a number of curious people who took the challenge and discovered new things to make the world a better place. People you read about in the Bible, and people who risked their lives to make discoveries and inventions that improved people’s lives. We also had opportunities were we curiously discovered new things through our studies and the activities that the school organised.

Featured above: Photos from the dedicated assembly organised on Thursday 9th June.

So, do you feel you know everything now? Are you still curious to learn more things? Of course! We are curious to discover the world around us, God’s creation and how we can treat it better. And we will always be curious to get to know all our brothers and sisters in humanity, so we can love each other as children of God.

World Environment Day at our College – June 2022

World Environment Day at our College – June 2022

World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th June as an annual reminder of the importance of being aware and taking action for the protection of the environment.

How did our school celebrate WED?

Secondary School

Following a number of lessons focused on video editing, our IT Department and Form 3 students prepared short videos about some of the world’s Ecosystems. Well done to all students for their work, and Mr Wayne for compiling all the material.

Check out the full set below:

The VET Department reflected on ways in which we can take care of the Environment and are presenting their work throughout the year to commemorate the World Environment Day.

Students in Form 1 and Form 2 worked in groups to present charts about responsible consumption and the three Rs. These charts will be exhibited in the school foyer.

The Engineering Technology groups have been using environmentally friendly practices all throughout the year. The Form 5 students reused wood and recycled materials to create a Christmas tree and its decorations. The Form 3 students created different toys, such as this wooden toy train from planks and pallets. In the labs there is a reusable materials station which stores scraps that can be used for other projects in the future.

Well done to all the students and all the teachers and LSEs in this Department!

Sixth Form – A message from the SAC Green Team

Happy World Environment Day 💚

We currently only have eight more years until Climate Change becomes irreversible, and yet hesitance towards environmental betterment is still prevalent.

We also see inadequate action from governments, and many of their promises remain futile.

Please take today as an opportunity to reflect upon how you can play your part in reducing the impact of Climate Change.

Support your words with actions.

Yours truly,
SAC Green Team 💚

Connected Classrooms: Malta, India & the Philippines

Connected Classrooms: Malta, India & the Philippines

Connected Classrooms
A collaborative Educate Magis project
between Malta, India and the Philippines

Our Prep 1 students have participated in an interesting and insightful collaboration involving other Jesuit schools in the network (India and the Philippines), organised by Educate Magis (Connected Classrooms).
This was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about and engage with one another, while showcasing their work as global citizens and caretakers of our common home.

Watch the three videos here:

Take a look at this lovely message from St Aloysius Gonzaga School:

It was an opportunity for the young learners of St Aloysius Gonzaga School to connect with students of two Jesuit schools, Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Philippines, and St Aloysius College, Malta.  Looking after our Common Home: Making our Homes Greener” the theme-based project, aimed to sensitise students to understand the importance of taking care of our common home. Students enjoyed working on this project especially introducing themselves on a zoom platform, poster making and singing. They also learned that they are a part of a bigger world. We look forward to work on such collaborative projects in the coming days!

Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Philippines have also shared the essence of this experience in the message below:

The collaboration project of Grade 1 classes from St. Aloysius Gonzaga School in India, St. Aloysius College in Malta and our school, Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Philippines, allowed us to have meaningful and enriching learning experiences for the students and educators. In the three video conferences, we were able to see how children from different parts of the world are aware of the current environmental issues we face and how we can address them. We have shared similar and unique ways of looking after our common home no matter where we are from, what languages we speak and how young we are. Through Educate Magis, we have met friends who are essentially our brothers and sisters sharing in the mission to be stewards of God’s Creation.
We are truly grateful for this opportunity and we look forward to engaging in future collaborations with other Jesuit schools in the coming years.

Jennifer Millette G. Balisi
Academic Coordinator, Grade 1
Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Philippines

All participants were presented with this certificate of participation as a commemorative token:
Well done to the organisers and all for your participation!
May your cherish and nurture the fruits of this lovely collaboration.
