Celebrating 100 years from the founding of Stella Maris School by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary

Did you know that St Aloysius Primary School was originally Stella Maris School, founded by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM) 100 years ago?

Watch the video below to learn more about our school’s precious history:

In honour of this special occasion, a celebration took place at our Primary School on Monday 21st November. Starting with a tour of the school, guests including Sr Lilian Hunt (FMM Provincial), Sisters from the Order, College staff, members of the Board and students were invited into the Assembly Hall. The celebration was opened with a short welcome by the President of the St Aloysius Primary School Student Council and Ms Daniela, followed by a song by the Prep 3s.

In memoriam – Mr Matthew Naudi

In memoriam – Mr Matthew Naudi

Our dear colleague and friend, Matthew Naudi, passed away late last week, leaving us all shocked and saddened by his loss.

Matthew joined St Aloysius College as an LSE in 2013, and became a prefect soon after. He was also the founder of Whiz Team Adventure, which organises team-building adventure activities.

From students to fellow colleagues, many are those who cherish fond memories of Matthew, whose influence was immensely positive.

Thank you for all you have done for so many St Aloysius students and colleagues. Thank you for your attention, love and care you had as an LSE and a division prefect. Thank you for your love for life, sports and adventure. Thank you for remaining positive until the very end, even when faced with illness and suffering. Thank you for your faith. Now rest in eternal peace that God can give you.

– Fr Jimmy Bartolo sj, Rector

One aspect that always struck me about Matthew is that he was always keen to look at the bright side of even the most difficult circumstances. He never gave up on anyone and did his best to mentor all students under his care. On a personal level Matthew’s character was quite straight forward. It could be defined as what you see is what you get. Every now and then we would have brief discussions to establish a way forward with students under Matthew’s care and occasionally we would discuss other aspects of personal life too. Matthew’s positive approach will always be remembered by myself as well as anyone who was lucky enough to cross his or her path with him. His ability to bring a team together was another priceless asset, proving how a person can really be an agent of change. One can hardly add much more to all that has been posted on social media over the past few days other than saying that his friendship with anyone with whom he came in contact, as well as his dedication and loyalty towards college truly proved him to be a man for others, setting an example for us all. May the Lord grant him eternal rest in His glory.
– Mr Edwin Ungaro, Head of Secondary School

Matthew, thank you for your sincere friendship, for your honesty, and for your appreciation and love.
We will miss you. I would like us to carry your positivity in our work as well as our approach to life.
You have taught us a lot, dear friend. Until the last minute, you remained positive; spreading love.
This is one of the quotes which reminds me of you: Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
– Ms Vanessa Portanier, Assistant Head

Heartfelt condolences to Matthew’s family, especially his sister and our colleague, Anne Marie, as well as their relatives and friends.

We thank the Lord for Matthew’s life and work at St Aloysius College!
May his positive spirit live on in us all.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, 23rd November at 2pm, in the Mosta Rotunda Parish Church (the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady, Mosta).
It will be live-streamed on YouTube: https://youtu.be/vbZ9JPlHOYY.
The video will also be available on YouTube for later viewing.

An Eco-Adventure at Park tal-Majjistral with our Prep 5s

An Eco-Adventure at Park tal-Majjistral with our Prep 5s

An Eco-Adventure at Park tal-Majjistral
featuring our Prep 5s

Our Prep 5s have recently visited the il-Majjistral Nature Park for an exciting programme of eco-focused activities, in line with our College’s Global Citizenship ethos.

Each of the three groups were placed at different stations, and were involved in a variety of activities: soil investigation (part of the Science field work assignment), planting of around 80 trees (grown by students with the help of dedicated staff members), and learning all about organic farming and biodiversity at the Majjistral Eco-Farm.

Ms Roberta, Assistant Head, explains that biodiversity is crucial to the running of the organic eco-farm. By 2030 at least 25% of local agricultural land should be organic, and by 2050 fully organic. At the moment, only 1% of local land is organic!

At the tree planting station, Ms Roberta tells us that five years ago, the area was a dumpsite, but thanks to the invaluable work of the Park Rangers, it has been cleaned up and is now thriving with growing trees which have been planted by various groups.

Our students were presented with a fantastic opportunity and honour: to contribute to this forest, as well as learn to value the importance of investing in the conservation of our nature.

Let us all be eco-aware – pass on this important message!
