READ: Opening a Pandora’s box of cannabis

We are suffering the consequences of the legislation which introduced the so-called responsible use of cannabis.

A year and a half after the introduction of legislation to introduce the so-called responsible use of cannabis, we are now experiencing the consequences of this law and the implications of effectively legalising cannabis in our country.

It seems clear that, even though this legislation still prohibits the smoking of cannabis in public, it has effectively led to the widespread use of cannabis in public spaces with the police helpless to enforce the law. Parents are genuinely concerned about the prevalence of cannabis in most commercial parties organised locally and the sprouting of cannabis shops that sell cannabis growing setups and cannabis products with very low THC.

Teacher’s words
(Ms Carmen Pace Bezzina)

The 18th of March is Global Recycling Day. The article in Kid 4 has provided an opportunity for English reading, discussion, and presentation of reflections about protecting the Earth and the future of mankind: a few good habits and some commitments are all we need to start. By carefully separating rubbish in the correct recycling bins, rubbish can be transformed and return to be part of our everyday life, for example: a special paper can be produced from the waste of fruit; key rings and mobile phone covers can be made from chewing gum; cycle paths and benches in parks and public spaces from recycled plastic; a special soft and resistant leather can be made from pineapple leaves. Recycling rubbish is a very important and doable step – it’s up to us to make the first step.

Students’ words:

Group 1: Josef, Kane, Beppe, Andrei, Luka –

We have created slogans and drawn about the second life of rubbish and how rubbish can be useful. We focused on the 3Rs. We tried to represent how rubbish harms the earth/environment.

Group 2: Eyouel, Luca, Daryl, Jan, Natnael –

Group 3: Adonai, Isaac, Jake, Alexei, Dale –

We decided to display our work in boxes so that we can have ample space for some drawings that supported our statements about the second life of rubbish.

Group 4: Noah, Kez, Damian, Matthias –

In our chart we decided to show different rubbish bins which illustrate how rubbish is separated. We also showed how some used stuff that has been thrown away, like fruit and cups, is re-used and made into new things.
