Juvenes Translatores is an annual contest aiming to promote multilingualism and provide an introduction to translation for students attending colleges around Europe.
Following their successful participation in last November’s edition, three of our Sixth Form students were awarded a Special Mention Certificate by the contest jury for their skill and the ‘admirable quality’ of their translations.
Congratulations to Daniel Attard, Hailey Marie Ciantar, and Nicola Schembri on this great achievement!

To commemorate World Water Day, the Jesuit Education Foundation has organised a multimedia activity for students of all ages:
Water means different things to different people.
In households, schools and workplaces, water can mean health, hygiene, dignity, and productivity.
In cultural, religious, and spiritual places, water can mean a connection with creation, community and oneself.
In natural spaces, water can mean peace, harmony, and preservation.
Today, water is under extreme threat from a growing population, increasing demands of agriculture and industry, and the worsening impacts of climate change.

To reflect on the value of water in our lives and to make our children protagonists and involved in this reflection, we decided to launch a network activity.
Students of all ages are invited to tell us their stories, thoughts, and feelings about water (“I’ll tell you what water is for me”). They are therefore invited to create textual and / or multimedia products (texts, images, videos, audio), which will be collected by each school. Each school will publish their works collected on their website.
Please send your work to Ms Roberta Vella by not later than Wednesday 17th March on email: roberta.vella@staloysius.edu.mt
Students will be able to build their stories by answering (either in Italian or English) to the following questions (not only):
- What does water mean to me?
- Why is water important to you?
- What role will water play in the future?
- What role does water play in your home and in your school?
- What would you change about water in your area?
- What do you use the most water for?
- How does water affect the food you eat?
A jury made up of representatives of the Jesuit Education Foundation will evaluate the students’ works and select the ones deemed best based on the following criteria:
- originality,
- content, and
- level of elaboration.
Let us value water properly and safeguard it effectively for everyone!

The assembly which was held in commemoration of World Day of Social Justice was a valuable opportunity for our students to understand the role of social justice and the importance of inclusivity and human rights, all of which are central to the Jesuit motto: being men and women for others.
Watch the video presentation here
As a symbolic action of social justice, students were invited to draw a heart shape on their hands and raise them as a gesture of unity.
Check out this lovely assortment of united hearts and hands:

Following the clean-up carried out by the Red Warriors and Water Explorers at Il-Ballut ta’ Marsaxlokk, Damian Azzopardi , a Prep 6 student, has written an article about this activity.
Well done Damian and all involved! 🙂

On Saturday, 27th February, the Red Warriors group from St Aloysius College went to Marsaxlokk for a beach clean-up. Armed with gloves, boots and big blue plastic bags, accompanied by teachers and parents, they spent a sunny Saturday morning filling up the bags. Using a wheelbarrow, shovels and sieve they collected pieces of styrofoam (‘gablow’), small broken glass, long pieces of string embedded in the rocks that had to be pulled and cut, plastic cups, plastic bottle taps, plastic bottles, heavy chains, pieces of wood and a cushion. There were also toothbrushes, teabags and plastic bags. The biggest surprise was a boat battery covered in green moss which everybody thought was a rock! Some items were embedded in the sand or entangled in the wire fence separating the beach from the grass so it took some time to pick up.
One of the students said that he really enjoyed the experience and a total of 130 Kg of waste were collected. Students were worried that had it not been picked up, all this waste would have ended in the sea harming its creatures. They felt very proud of helping the environment but puzzled that most of the waste most probably came from people who used the sea most, as a living or as leisure.
