The Sixth Form Chaplaincy

The Sixth Form Chaplaincy aims to accompany students during their stay at St Aloysius’ College Sixth Form. The Chaplaincy Team is made up of a lay chaplain and a Jesuit. Together they create opportunities for students to reflect and grow in their spiritual life.

Apart from the celebration of daily liturgy, the sacrament of reconciliation and adoration, the team also organises Soul Space. This is a day retreat for all students, held twice a year, during which students can reflect about their life and explore questions concerning faith and spirituality.

Another important aspect of Chaplaincy is cura personalis, a Jesuit term for ‘care for the whole person’ and respect for all that makes up each individual.

The Chaplaincy also provides a warm and welcoming space for students to relax and feel at home.

The Social Responsibility Programme (SRP):

A guiding inspiration for Jesuit education is to form ‘men and women with and for others’. The aim of the Social Responsibility Programme is to give the students an experience of service to vulnerable and/or marginalised people in society.

S = SERVICE TO OTHERS IN NEED
R = RECOGNISING THE GIFTS I HAVE RECEIVED
P = PLACING MYSELF AT THE DISPOSITION OF OTHERS

Every student is committed to give 55 hours of service to others in need, during the first year at Sixth Form. The Chaplaincy Team helps the students to find a placement, provides some training for the students and follows each student in a reflective process throughout the experience.

The Voluntary Work Programme:

The Chaplaincy offers two projects for students to do voluntary work. Students may apply to do voluntary work with the Missionaries of Charity in Armagh, Ireland. This involves organising a two week summer camp for disadvantaged children. In 2018, there will be two groups of 14 students participating in this experience.

Students may apply to do voluntary work in Malta. This experience, called Week with the Wise, involves spending a week at Loyola House, Naxxar, where students organise various activities for the elderly Jesuits who live there.
